Democrats on the Senate Intelligence Committee want answers from Donald Trump Jr. over his meeting with a Russian lawyer.
Trump Jr. already tweeted today that he’s “happy to work with” the committee, and committee vice chair Mark Warner said that he “absolutely” wants to hear from the President’s son.
Warner told reporters (in the video above, via MSNBC) he has questions about who else was in the meeting, and he asked, “If there’s no there there, why aren’t more of these people coming clean at a more regular fashion?”
When a reporter asked him if the meeting gives “the appearance of collusion,” Warner simply said it’s “remarkable” the meeting was not reported earlier.
He said there seems to be a “pattern of convenient forgetfulness” from Trump officials.
Later on MSNBC, Senator Joe Manchin told Hallie Jackson the committee definitely wants to hear from Trump Jr., publicly if possible.
When asked about potential collusion, Manchin said he didn’t want to make a call on that yet, saying he wants to “hear the facts” first.
However, fellow Senate Intel Democrat Ron Wyden was more blunt in talking to The Daily Beast:
“Based on Donald Trump, Jr.’s own admissions, there was, at a minimum, an effort by the Trump campaign to have the Russians help Donald Trump get elected. That’s an attempt at collusion,” Ron Wyden, an Oregon Democrat on the intelligence committee, told the Daily Beast.
“It absolutely should be part of the investigations into Russia’s meddling in the election.”
