Trump Hits W for Veterans Speech: Sends Them into Combat Then Charges Them?
Internet content production machine Donald Trump took a swipe at George W Bush, brother of a certain GOP presidential rival, for reports that Bush charged $100,000 for a speech to Helping a Hero, a Texas-based veterans group. Given that Bush’s ill-fated excursion into Iraq created a whole new generation of veterans, many wondered what he was doing charging them such a fee.
Trump — who has used the Iraq War as leverage against GOP establishment candidate Jeb Bush, stuck with the war thanks to his last name — saw an opening:
You mean George Bush sends our soldiers into combat, they are severely wounded, and then he wants $120,000 to make a boring speech to them?
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 9, 2015
Trump, given to slight exaggerations now and again, inflated Bush’s price tag 20%.
