Trump Lawyers Scramble to Stifle Sex Discrimination Accuser

Screen Shot 2016-02-01 at 1.53.55 PMLast week, a young woman who was a field organizer for Donald Trump‘s presidential campaign in Davenport, Iowa, named Elizabeth Mae Davidson, filed a discrimination complaint against the GOP frontrunner. She alleged that men with her job were paid more and given chances to plan and speak at rallies. She also alleged that while at one of the events where she was not permitted to address the crowd, Trump made an inappropriate reference to her looks. Trump has denied the claims and today, with the Iowa caucus looming in the evening, his lawyers have increased their efforts to silence Davidson.

In a statement to ThinkProgress, Davidson’s attorney, Dorothy O’Brien, Trump’s legal team contacted the young woman to tell her that she was violating a non-disparagement clause in her staff contract.

In her original complaint, Davidson asserted that she did not violate the agreement, even though there was an opportunity for her to do so when the New York Times reported on her team’s poor showing. Trump, however, has been disparaging Davidson, insisting he does not know her but has heard that she did “a terrible job” as a field organizer.

He also claimed to have heard “some very strange reports about her.” According to Trump, those reports are that Davidson dresses like his wife, Melania Trump.
