Twitter Wonders Why House Republicans Pushed For Release of Comey Memos: Nunes ‘Is An Imbecile’

Following the release of former FBI Director James Comey‘s memos detailing his interactions with President Donald Trump, Twitter is wondering why anyone thought this was a good idea, especially House Republicans.
What exactly were House Republicans hoping to accomplish by demanding the full release of these memos? Nothing I’ve read seems to change Comey’s story and if anything, these memos give more, not less, credence to the dossier.

Can someone explain to me what in these memos makes Trump look good, and why Congressional Republicans wanted to leak them?

Very confused as to why House Republicans thought it was a good idea to leak these memos.

I’m about halfway through the Comey memos.
Why in the world would House Republicans both demand and then leak them?
They are INCREDIBLY damaging for Donald Trump.

I’m a little confused why House Republicans were so eager to have these memos out.

If you wondering what Congressional Republicans thought they were accomplishing by releasing @Comey memos: remember that @DevinNunes is Trump sycophant, but more important, he is an imbecile.

Sounds like House Republicans scores another own goal just as they did with Nunes Memo. They’re good at that. https://t.co/byxQwRwxC4

Devin Nunes (R-CA), Trey Gowdy (R-SC) and Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) released a joint statement explaining their desire to release the memos, believing they would clear up Russian collusion allegations. However, that seems to have backfired.
“We have long argued former Director Comey’s self-styled memos should be in the public domain, subject to any classification redactions,” the statement read. “Former Director Comey’s memos show the President made clear he wanted allegations of collusion, coordination, and conspiracy between his campaign and Russia fully investigated. The memos also made clear the ‘cloud’ President Trump wanted lifted was not the Russian interference in the 2016 election cloud, rather it was the salacious, unsubstantiated allegations related to personal conduct leveled in the dossier.”
