UNC National Championship Team Not Going to White House: ‘Could Not Find a Date That Worked’

The UNC 2017 national championship team is not going to the White House. But even though the news broke today, a spokesman for the team insists it was just a scheduling issue.
Steve Kirschner, the UNC men’s basketball team spokesman, said the Trump White House did invite UNC, but that the university and the White House couldn’t agree on a date.
“We couldn’t find a date that worked for both parties,” he said. “We tried about eight or nine dates and between they couldn’t work out that date, we couldn’t work out that date, so – we would have liked to have gone, but not going.”
Kirschner added that UNC’s players “were fine with going.”
This news comes on the same day that President Trump withdrew Stephen Curry‘s White House invitation, leading to condemnation from athletes including LeBron James and Chris Paul.
The UNC statement came before the Golden State Warriors released their statement affirming they’re not going to the White House after Trump disinvited Curry.
