VA Whistleblower Claims He Was Demoted, Mocked by Colleagues After Coming Forward

Days after coming forward with allegations relating to how the Department of Veterans Affairs has been providing American service personnel with substandard care and benefits, Missouri-based Dr. Jose Mathews tells the press that he is paying the price.

Speaking with KMOX, Mathews said he has been demoted from the head of psychiatry with a VA hospital in St. Louis after revealing that doctors only cared for half of the mental health patients they had the capacity to treat. He added that he has been subject to bullying and mockery from his colleagues after leaking these revelations.

“They’re sometimes mocking,” Mathews told KMOX. “There are sometimes people who make it a point to come into my office and laugh. Seriously, this is not a joke.” He added, however, that only a minority of his coworkers took apparent pleasure in his situation.
