Walmart Pulls ‘Got Retard?’ Mugs From its Website
This week, online shoppers were outraged when mugs that said “Got Hitler?” and “Got Retard?” appeared on Walmart’s website. The mugs are made by a company called JM Holdings, a third party company that uses the retailer’s website to sell its items. There are supposed to be procedures in place to stop things like this from being listed on the site, but for whatever reason, the awful mugs got through.
To Walmart’s credit, the mugs were pulled from the site pretty quickly- a spokesperson from the store told Vocative they took them down as soon as they realized the problem, and called the mugs “unacceptable.” The same mugs were also removed from Amazon’s site.
Before the mugs were removed, however, there was a Change.org petition, and there were a ton of complaints on social media.
Not cool at all @Walmart @amazon. Please remove these hurtful products ASAP. cc: @JeffBezos @AmazonHelp https://t.co/BEHg8XsC0t
