WaPo Twitter Account Tries, Fails to Give Sexual Assault Story an ‘Upworthy’ Twist

Someone’s been abusing their Upworthy Headline Generator.

Matt Yglesias spotted the Washington Post attempting the do-gooder site’s sadly-unpatented clickbait formula, in which a post is abstracted into its existential units and then posed as a moral cliffhanger. Trouble is, WaPo tried it with a story about sexual assault:

That tweet’s only twenty minutes old and already has a tail of complaints hanging off it.

The actual headline, by the by, is “For women once abused by Potomac School teacher Kloman, years of pain and silence,” and the accompanying article concerns a man who serially molested five girls in the DC area in the 60s and 70s, and who was only recently convicted and sentenced for the crimes.
