Washington Post Writer on Trump Targeting Amazon to Hurt Jeff Bezos: ‘Something Tinpot Dictators Do’

Washington Post columnist Catherine Rampell is returning fire at Donald Trump as the president continues to escalate his feud with the newspaper’s owner, Amazon chief Jeff Bezos.

For the last few days, Trump has railed on and on about Amazon being unfair to America and how WaPo should be forced to publicly declare itself as Bezos’ personal lobbying firm.

Trump’s feud with the online retailer has shaken up the stock market quite a bit already, and when Rampell appeared on CNN to talk about this, she noted that Trump seems to be going after Amazon simply to “punish a perceived political enemy.”

“We have a sitting president who is tweeting, apparently with the express intention of driving down a stock price,” Rampell said. “This is something tinpot dictators do…”

Rampell continued to explain that WaPo is an independent news organization which is “not owned by Amazon,” yet Trump seems to be trying to hurt Bezos in order to make him pay for the paper’s critical White House coverage.
