WATCH LIVE: World Powers Address Potential Agreement on Nuclear Deal with Iran
A day late, perhaps not a dollar short: according to reports, the P5+1 powers have reached a framework of a deal with Iran on the development of the country’s nuclear program. The agreement would provide a basic structure to the drafting of the ultimate deal, set to conclude by June 30th.
The agreement is the result of over a year of negotiations led by Secretary of State John Kerry, and has been criticized by a bipartisan coterie of U.S. lawmakers, who deplore lifting sanctions on Iran and worry that any proposed deal will do little in stopping Iran’s development of a nuclear weapon.
A deal is backed by the majority of the American public, who nonetheless remain skeptical of its potential effectiveness.
Iranian representatives, including Foreign Minister Javad Zarif and Prime Minister Hassan Rouhani, tweeted about the deal:
Found solutions. Ready to start drafting immediately.
