In New Orleans, 4 WWL Eyewitness News has recently come out to take a stand against violence. The move comes after reporter Eric Paulsen was interviewing a local rapper about the culture of violence in the Big Easy when a former member of that rapper’s crew showed up and instigated a fight. During that fight, a gun came out.
The rapper being interviewed was Kwame Gates, who goes by K. Gates. Gates has been working on a documentary, Murda Capital, that explores the causes of violence in New Orleans. The topic is evergreen in that part of Louisiana. Star Saints football player Will Smith was killed in the city last month over what appeared to be a case of road rage. Coach Sean Payton spoke out against the rampant gun use there then, too.
Gates and a fellow rapper who goes by Easy Money were discussing the differences between rap culture and real life when the altercation began. Easy Money’s young son witnessed the whole thing, as did the WWL cameras.
Watch above to see the fight and hear Gates’ lamentation of the violence that is plaguing the city.
