Seven months after signing a contract to play baseball for the New York Mets, Tim Tebow finally got a chance to take some hacks against big league pitching on Wednesday.
It didn’t go well.
Above, you can see Tebow’s first at-bat, against — of all pitchers — reigning American League Cy Young award-winner Rick Porcello. The Boston Red Sox ace showed no mercy and the former Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback went down looking on four pitches.
Tebow made contact on his next at-bat. But with the bases loaded and no out, he grounded meekly to second for a 4-6-3 double play. A run did score, but no RBI was awarded because of the double play.
Adding injury to insult, Tebow was hit by a pitch in his third at-bat, taking one off his right shoulder. Fortunately, he was okay. The subsequent batter hit a line drive for an out, and Tebow broke for second and was doubled off first base.
A strikeout in his fourth and final turn at the plate left him 0-3 with two strikeouts and a hit by a pitch in what was a most inauspicious debut. Fortunately for him, he’s scheduled to get another shot on Friday.
