WATCH: Trump Joins Meeting on Reforming the UN LIVE STREAM
After a lengthy history of bashing the United Nations — even threatening to pull out of parts of the global group and cut America’s funding — President Donald Trump will finally appear at the organization for four days to display his foreign policy vision during a time of heightened threats abroad.
On the schedule for the president are discussions on North Korea, the Iran deal, and negotiating the climate accord.
Today, Trump is expected to join a meeting regarding “reforming the UN,” focused in part on security issues. The event is scheduled to begin at 9:50 a.m. EST.
He will also meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and French President Emmanuel Macron at different times today, focusing on “Iran’s destabilizing behavior” according to national security adviser H.R. McMaster.
Aside from his jabs at the “weak and incompetent” UN on previous occasions, Trump has recently praised the intergovernmental organization for the two unanimous council votes increasing sanctions on North Korea due to the rouge state’s obsession with flaunting their nuclear arms’ progress.
The occasion will mark Trump’s first UN appearance as president and will be held in New York City, not far from Trump’s former home at Trump Tower. The president’s four day schedule is filled with one-on-one meetings with world leaders, but the primary highlight will take place on Tuesday when Trump will give his first UN address after nearly eight months in office.
