We’d Cover This Greenwald/Snowden Selfie, Except Selfies Are Dead

Selfies were declared dead Wednesday, when the Webby Awards ran an “In Memoriam” reel just as the word was entered into the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, making it all lame and official, and only a few weeks after the selfie was revealed to be Samsung’s preferred promotional delivery system.

Before the death of the selfie, the following iteration, featuring NSA leaker Edward Snowden, Pulitzer Prize winners Laura Poitras and Glenn Greenwald, and Greenwald partner David Miranda, would have been newsworthy:

So you’ll just have to imagine the post that would have happened if we as a culture still reported on selfies as events, full of questions like “Where was this taken” and info like “This is the first time Snowden and Greenwald have been photographed together.”
