What Do Ronald Reagan and Santa Claus Have in Common?

 

It’s Christmas Eve, that most anticipatory of days, when thoughts turn to the birth of Christ, and red-nosed reindeer, and other mixtures of myth and fact. There’s an interesting bit of common ground between two such figures, Ronald Reagan and the modern commercial symbol/holiday spirit guide we know as Santa Claus. I know what you’re thinking, but no, Santa Claus didn’t sell arms to Iran to finance the Contras; he was obviously on the side of the Santa-nistas. And no, contrary to popular belief, they aren’t both white (just ask Nancy).

No, Santa Claus and Ronald Reagan share a much deeper bond, and depending on your point of view, a darker one:
