Yahoo! News Fires DC Bureau Chief Following Remark About Romneys, Blacks

Yahoo! News has fired their Washington bureau chief David Chalian, after he made a joke about Mitt and Ann Romney being “happy to have a party when black people drown.”

POLITICO’s Dylan Byers initially reported the news, later updating with Yahoo! News’ confirmation:

“David Chalian’s statement was inappropriate and does not represent the views of Yahoo!. He has been terminated effective immediately. We have already reached out to the Romney campaign, and we apologize to Mitt Romney, his staff, their supporters and anyone who was offended.”

Chalian’s comment, as reported by Mediaite’s Noah Rothman, earlier today:

“They’re not concerned at all,” said Chalian to the laughs of colleagues. Chalian’s jokes was followed by other inaudible comments made by a fellow Yahoo! News staffer.

The producer was referring to Hurricane Isaac which is currently dumping rain over New Orleans seven years after Hurricane Katrina devastated the Crescent City.
