You Thought the Election Was Already Strange? Arnold Schwarzenegger Would’ve Run if He Could
Ask yourself: what would have made the 2016 election more spectacular than it already was? The correct answer is: The Governator.
Film actor Arnold Schwarzenegger was profiled by Adweek today, and he told them that he would’ve loved to take his own shot at becoming president this year. Unfortunately, Schwarzenegger is ineligible for the presidency, even if he did serve as Governor of California from 2003 to 2011.
“If I’d been born in America, I would’ve run,” Schwarzenegger said. “Because now? This was a very good time to get in the race.”
As an Austrian migrant, Schwarzenegger is disqualified from the presidency on the grounds that he is not a “natural-born” American citizen. Schwarzenegger has campaigned in the past to do away with that restriction for presidential hopefuls.
In terms of what his experience could bring to the White House, Schwarzenegger had this to say:
“I didn’t love politics, but I love policy.”
While Schwarzenegger has returned to his acting career, he is still open about his political views, having supported John Kasich over Donald Trump throughout the GOP primary. Schwarzenegger has made it clear that he won’t vote for Trump on November 8, and he has actually taken the mogul’s role as host of NBC’s Celebrity Apprentice.
Just imagine though, how fascinating would a debate have been if Schwarzenegger faced off against Trump?
