Zero Dark Thirty Director Reportedly Working on Bergdahl Movie
Kathryn Bigelow, the director of The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty, is reportedly tackling another story involving the U.S. military: the story of Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl‘s capture and five-year imprisonment by the Taliban. According to Deadline, the idea of a movie about the American POW has been in the works for a while, but with Bergdahl’s recent return from captivity, a movie about his capture seems rather timely now.
Zero Dark Thirty, you’ll recall, turned out to be a politically controversial film after questions arose after how the filmmakers obtained certain information and critics expressed disapproval with how the film made use of torture techniques. So tackling a subject like a prisoner of war who, according to his own platoon mates, actively deserted them, would likely be in Bigelow’s wheelhouse too.
And in addition to that, Fox Searchlight has also apparently acquired the rights to the Rolling Stones article on Bergdahl from years ago by the late Michael Hastings.
