Nancy Mace Straight Up Lied About Her Post-McCarthy Ouster Fundraising on CNN

CNN’s Kaitlan Collins confronted Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) on CNN Wednesday night over her pleas for campaign donations after she helped Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) and the entirety of the Democratic Caucus eject Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) from the Speaker’s office on Tuesday.

As recently as January, Mace had ripped into Gaetz for fundraising off of his opposition to McCarthy’s bid for the speakership.

“Matt Gaetz is a fraud. Every time he voted against Kevin McCarthy last week, he sent out a fundraising email,” argued Mace on CBS at the time.

Yet Mace has not hesitated to cash in on her newly forged alliance with Gaetz and the Democrats.

“Today I voted for the Motion to Vacate and remove the Speaker. This isn’t about left vs. right. This isn’t about ideology. This is about trust and keeping your word. This is about making Congress do it’s [sic] job,” wrote Mace in a fundraising email below a prominent “DONATE TODAY” button on Tuesday.

Then, during an interview with Neil Cavuto on Wednesday afternoon, Mace flouted House Ethics rules by directing viewers to her campaign website to support her while speaking from inside the Capitol Building.

“You’re damn right I’m fundraising off of this right now ’cause the establishment is coming after me for taking a principled stand,” Mace told Cavuto. “And if your viewers want to help out, they can go to Nancymace.org.”

Mace again took her tin cup out and started begging on Collins’s show Wednesday night.

“I’m asking people to go to my website at NancyMace.org to help me, to show their support because there are folks that are coming after me tonight,” said Mace

Having taken notice of the discrepancy between the standards to which Mace holds herself and Gaetz, Collins quizzed the South Carolina Republican about it.

“I’m glad you brought that up because back in January, when there were the marathon votes for Kevin McCarthy to get this job, he was fighting to get the gavel. This is something that you said,” began Collins before playing the CBS clip. “Of course, now here we are in October, you and Congressman Gaetz are in agreement on at least ousting McCarthy. You were on a podcast together today. You yourself have been fundraising off that vote. How do you how do you explain that to now?”

“Well, I have not been fundraising off of this every step of the way,” asserted Mace in her own defense. She continued:

I made my decision last night. I made the decision to fundraise over the last 24 hours because of the threats that I have received over fundraising and money drying up, which is why I need help. The people, the establishment is coming after me. I’ve gotten a lot of threats from different groups and different members that they will withhold fundraising no matter what, and I do need help from the people. And that was a decision that I made late last night because of everything that was going on. And it is a genuine ask. And if they want, if people want to support the effort, they can go to NancyMace.org.

But we can say with 100% certainty that Mace did not only reach the decision to use her vote against McCarthy as a fundraising ploy “late last night.” And we can say that because as early as 5:45 pm on Tuesday night — within an hour of McCarthy’s ouster becoming official — reporters had been tipped off about Mace’s panhandling.

It’s no mystery why Mace wants to avoid the charges of hypocrisy and comparisons to the fraudster Gaetz that her inconsistencies invite.

But why she’d compound her troubles with such a blatant lie is anyone’s guess.
