‘BOOOOO!’ Maddow Airs Montage of House Republicans Getting Chewed Out by Constituents for Supporting Musk and DOGE
MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow aired several clips of Republican lawmakers getting hounded for answers amid their support for Elon Musk and his “Department of Government Efficiency.”
DOGE has been firing scores of employees and freezing funding of certain programs at a slew of federal agencies, often in a haphazard fashion. Other employees have accepted DOGE’s offer of “deferred resignation.” On multiple occasions, DOGE has fired and attempted to rehire employees in crucial departments after realizing those laid off were responsible for nuclear security or tasked with fighting the country’s bird flu epidemic, for example. While it’s unclear how many have been laid off or resigned, the number is well into the tens of thousands and likely over 100,000.
This week, several House Republicans held town halls with constituents who gave them the business in scenes Maddow was all too happy to show on Friday night:
Town Hall with Rep. Rich McCormick (R-GA)
ATTENDEE: Nuclear workers of the NNSA nuclear stockpile and CDC workers working on the bird flu being fired by DOGE and then having to be rehired when someone realizes, “Oh, gosh, we need those people.” Why is this supposedly conservative party taking such a radical and extremist and sloppy approach to this?
[CHEERS]
MCCORMICK: You have to do more with less in order to survive…
ATTENDEE: I understand trying to do more with less. That’s reasonable. What’s not reasonable is taking this chainsaw approach, which they obviously admit when they fired these people and decided, “Oh, we fired the wrong people. We got to bring them back in.” Why is this being jammed down the pipe so rushed and sloppily?

Telephone Town Hall with Rep. Stephanie Bice (R-OK):
ATTENDEE: I’m a registered Republican voter and retired active Army officer. How can you tell me that DOGE, with some college whiz kids, from a computer terminal in Washington, D.C., without even getting out into the field, after about a week or maybe two, have determined that it’s ok to cut veterans benefits?
BICE: I think a couple things. Let me give you an example. Did you know that the VA was in charge of payments for illegals for housing? Basically, the VA–
ATTENDEE: No, I’d like for you to send that to me. Could you send me that reference, so I could research that? Because no, I’m not aware of that. And I would tell you that’s a red herring, a false flag. If you’re throwing that kind of political stuff up trying to cut veterans benefits, that’s very alarming to me.
…
Town Hall with Rep. Scott Fitzgerald (R-WI):
ATTENDEE: When will you stand up to them and say, “That is enough”?
FITZGERALD: The end result of the fraud and abuse that has been discovered already–
[JEERS AND GROANS OF DISBELIEF]
ATTENDEE: There’s absolutely no proof!
…
Town Hall with Rep. Glenn Grothman Fitzgerald (R-WI):
GROTHMAN: President Trump has issued a lot of executive orders. I think, by and large, this is moving very quickly compared to other administrations. And I think across the board, he’s done some very good things.
ATTENDEES: Booooo!
GROTHMAN: He’s gotten rid of birthright citizenship.
ATTENDEES: Booooo!
ATTENDEE: It’s illegal as hell!
The Trump administration is attempting to end birthright citizenship in the United States, which is enshrined in the 14th Amendment to the Constitution.
