CNN Panel Floored By Marjorie Taylor Greene’s ‘Disgusting’ Insult Competition with Dems on House Floor: ‘These People Are Elected!’
A CNN panel was left collectively speechless for a moment after watching lawmakers get into a shouting match at a House hearing where personal insults were hurled across the aisle.
At a Thursday House Oversight committee hearing, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) insulted Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) by telling her she had “fake eyelashes,” leading to both Crockett and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) to push back. Crockett eventually referred to Greene as having a “bleached blonde, bad-built, butch body.”
“Who wants to take a whack at this?” a stunned Kasie Hunt asked a panel of analysts on CNN This Morning on Friday after watching highlights from the fight.
Met with silence, Hunt said in disbelief, “I mean, these are people are elected!”
Democratic strategist Meghan Hays said the House devolved into a “circus” and wondered why Greene and Crockett would need to rely on personal insults when they have a wide valley of political disagreements between them to fight over.
“How far have we come? Why are these people even acceptable? It’s disgusting that this is how they’re behaving, and why are they attacking each other personally?” Hays said. “They have enough to attack each other on their views. They don’t need to attack each other on their eyelashes and their hair.”
Bulwark publisher Sarah Longwell called the scene a “depressing” sight, saying the House is currently in “absolute chaos” because voters are electing too many “clowns” to office.
“What’s depressing about this is it’s not that unusual for the House these days,” she said.
Over on Fox & Friends, the hosts were equally stunned, though found more humor in the bickering.
“Their parents must be so proud. I mean, to make it all the way to Congress and then act so trashy at a committee hearing,” Lawrence Jones said.
