Dean Phillips Slams MSNBC, Calls It Fox News For Democrats and Claims They Banned Him

Former Democratic congressman Dean Phillips accused progressive MSNBC of being just as bad a partisan outlet for Democrats as Fox News is for Republicans, and claimed the network banned him from appearing on its shows after he launched his presidential campaign.

Phillips made the remarks during an appearance on Wednesday’s News Not Noise with Jessica Yellin podcast.

The Minnesota Democrat, who mounted a longshot primary challenge against President Joe Biden before both dropped out of the race, told Jessica Yellin that MSNBC operates like Fox News.

“I was one of the Democrats that, for years, just saw Fox News as a mechanism of the Republican Party,” Phillips said. “Little did I know that MSNBC is exactly the same, probably, frankly, even more directly tied.”

Phillips cited what he described as a revolving door between Democratic administrations and MSNBC, naming several former government officials who have joined the network.

He added:

If you look at the talent and management at MSNBC, Obama alums, Biden alums, There’s a revolving door. Members of Congress become consultants. I mean, sorry, become lobbyists. And former administration members go on to media. Look at Jen Psaki.

Look at – you can just look down the list. And you can, I’m not gonna use names here, but I’ve had confirmation that the minute that I announced my campaign in the primary, which was not aggressive, I didn’t receive a single invitation from MSNBC any longer, despite being the ranking member of the Middle East Subcommittee on Foreign Affairs, a regular guest on various MSNBC shows. Not a single invitation.

Phillips launched a Democratic primary challenge against Biden in October 2023 after expressing concerns about Biden’s age and electability.

He suspended the bid months after receiving a raft of criticism from members of his own party.

Phillips chose not to seek reelection to Congress and blamed partisanship in Washington on his way out of office.

“America has endured for a remarkable 246 years as the longest-lasting democratic republic in the world, but we are facing a crisis of cooperation, common sense, and truth,” he said.
