‘Enough!’ Christie Tells Ramaswamy He’s ‘The Most Obnoxious Blowhard in America’
Gov. Chris Christie (R-NJ) lit into Vivek Ramaswamy as “the most obnoxious blowhard in America” as they sparred over U.S. policy in Ukraine during the fourth GOP presidential debate, on NewsNation.
The dustup began as Ramaswamy made fun of Nikki Haley’s “cup of coffee stint at the U.N.,” saying she has no real foreign policy experience.
“Look at the blank expression! She doesn’t know the names of the provinces that she wants to actually fight for,” Ramaswamy said, questioning Haley’s knowledge of Ukraine. Ramaswamy’s attack drew boos from the audience and prompted Christie to admonish, “Enough! Enough!”
“Let me just say something here,” Christie said. “His ‘reasonable peace deal’ in Ukraine, he made it clear. Give them all the land that they’ve already stolen. Promise Putin, you’ll never put Ukraine in Russia, and then trust Putin not to have a relationship with China. Let me tell you something, that’s no reasonable deal.”
“That’s not my deal!” Ramaswamy shot back.
“Yes, that’s exactly what you said! You do this at every debate!” Christie continued as Ramaswamy tried to speak over him.
“Don’t interrupt me! I didn’t interrupt you, ok?” Christie said. “You do this at every debate. You go out on the stump and you say something, all of us see it on video, we confront you on it on the debate stage, you say you didn’t say it, and then you back away.”
“I’ll tell you exactly what I said, Chris. ” Ramaswamy interjected. “You’re spewing nonsense!”
“I’m not done yet! Now look!” Christie exclaimed.
“Hold on, hold on,” the moderator interrupted as the crowd cheered.
“Let me tell you something, This is the fourth debate, the fourth debate that you would be voted in the first 20 minutes as the most obnoxious blowhard in America! So shut up for a little while!” Christie exclaimed.
Christie went on to admonish Ramaswamy for insulting Haley’s “basic intelligence.”
“I’ll tell you what, I’ve known her for 12 years, which is longer than he’s even started to vote in a Republican primary. And while we disagree about some issues and we disagree about who should be president of the United States. What we don’t disagree on is, this is a smart accomplished woman. You should stop insulting her!”
Ramaswamy then insulted Christie’s knowledge of foreign policy.
“Chris, your version of foreign policy experience was closing a bridge from New Jersey to New York. So do everybody a favor, just walk yourself off that stage, enjoy a nice meal, and get the hell out of this place.”
After exchanging additional jabs, Christie got the final word about Ramaswamy’s experience, saying that he was prosecuting terrorists at the time Ramaswamy “was learning about the provinces in Ukraine, sitting with his smart-ass mouth at Harvard. That’s what was going on,” Christie said.
