Fox’s John Roberts Pushes Back in Spat With Biden Campaign After He Was Accused of a ‘Blatant Lie’

Fox News anchor John Roberts responded with receipts to President Joe Biden’s campaign accusing him of a “blatant lie” after he noted that some insulin co-pays had dropped to $35 under former President Donald Trump.

“Fox host tries to claim Trump, not President Biden, capped insulin at $35/month,” Biden’s campaign wrote on X, following up with a “FACT CHECK” that branded the message a “blatant lie” and argued the current president deserves credit for lowering insulin co-pays through the Inflation Reduction Act.

“I remarked that I recalled back in May of 2020 that the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services had issued a press release that stated President Trump had a plan to lower insulin co-plays to $35. The Biden campaign’s rapid response issued a response on X,” Roberts said on America Reports on Tuesday.

The Fox News reporter said he had the “receipts” to back up what he said.

“But there are receipts to dispute the Biden campaign’s claim about what I said,” Roberts declared.

Roberts then produced the press release from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services that references a “maximum $35 co-pay” for seniors. Roberts also showed footage from a press conference held in the Rose Garden announcing Trump’s plan to lower insulin costs.

“I was in the Rose Garden that afternoon as were many other news organizations,” Roberts said, then producing a Washington Post article about the price reform too.

The price reduction came through the Medicare Part D Senior Savings Model, in which drug companies would enroll senior citizens in the program and lower costs on a voluntarily basis. Trump also had an executive order that never went into effect. Biden temporarily halted Trump’s plan in his first days in office pending a review. Biden would end up making the lower co-pay cost a mandate with his own plan.

X, formerly Twitter, also provided additional context to the Biden campaign tweet, including multiple fact checks detailing the timeline of both Trump and Biden’s plans.

“We invited a representative from the Biden campaign to come on the program with us to discuss the issue, but thus far they have made no one available,” Roberts said.
