Gaetz Shreds McCarthy on House Floor: Hard to Call Biden ‘Feeble’ When He Keeps Taking McCarthy’s ‘Lunch Money’

As Matt Gaetz (R-FL) threatens to launch a rebellion against Kevin McCarthy, the congressman gave a speech on the House floor, accusing the speaker of breaking his promises and weakness in dealing with President Joe Biden.

A day after announcing his intent to file a motion to vacate against McCarthy, Gaetz — in his floor speech — argued that McCarthy gave into the White House’s call for more Ukrainian aid funding. This despite the fact that short-term funding bill Congress passed to avoid a shutdown did not include new funding for Ukraine, and McCarthy has suggested tying Ukraine funding to border security funding.

“It is going to be difficult for my Republican friends to keep calling President Biden feeble while he continues to take Speaker McCarthy’s lunch money in every negotiation,” Gaetz said. He doubled down on his claim McCarthy made a “secret side deal” with Democrats for Ukrainian support in exchange for their help to get the stopgap funding bill passed.

After claiming McCarthy admitted to the deal’s existence, Gaetz addressed the “crocodile tears” over his plans to launch a GOP revolt against McCarthy. Gaetz continued to demand McCarthy come clean on the supposed deal, also denouncing the practice of rolling various numerous spending issues into a singular package.

So Mr. Speaker, just tell us what was in the secret Ukraine side deal. What commitments were made to President Biden, to continue the spending of President Biden in exchange for doing things for President Biden? It is becoming increasingly clear who the Speaker of the House already works for, and it’s the Republican conference. Mr. Speaker, I would ask these questions be answered soon because there may be other votes coming today or later this week that could be implicated by the answers to these questions. Members of the Republican Party might vote differently on a motion to vacate if they heard what the speaker had to share with us about his secret side deal with Joe Biden on Ukraine.
