GOP Rep. Ken Buck Announces He’s Leaving Congress: ‘Disappointed That Republicans Continue To Rely’… on The Big Lie

Rep. Ken Buck (R-CO) told Andrea Mitchell Wednesday that he was not seeking re-election to his House seat, in part due to the Big Lie that continued to be pushed by MAGA Republicans.

Buck said he was joining Rep. Kay Granger (R-TX) “and probably some others…in the near future” who planned to leave Congress.

“I’ve decided that it is time for me to do some other things,” Buck said. “I always have been disappointed with our inability in Congress to deal with major issues, and I’m also disappointed that the Republican Party continues to, you know, rely on this lie that the 2020 election was stolen, and rely on the January 6th narrative, and the political prisoners from January 6th, and other things. If we’re going to solve difficult problems, we’ve got to deal with some very unpleasant truths, or lies, and make sure we project to the public what the truth is.”

Mitchell pushed back on Buck, who voted for election-denier Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA) for speaker of the House.

“Mike went to the Supreme Court with a challenge to the election. I think going to the courts is one thing. Trying to move the mob from the Mall up to the House floor and, you know, interrupting the congressional proceeding — whole different issue,” Buck answered.

Buck said that while he’s leaving Congress, he’s not leaving the Republican Party, adding, “I’m not going to be leaving my role in trying to talk truth to the public.”

The New York Post reported last month that Buck had his sights set on becoming a political commentator for CNN, which could be what he meant by that.

“I think this election is going to be a critical election, both at the presidential level and in the House,” Buck told Mitchell. “I think people in the House are going to have to make a decision on where they want to go with the values of the Republican Party.”

Mitchell asked if Buck would vote for Donald Trump if his became the GOP’s nominee for President.

“Well, it’s going to be a very difficult decision that I have to make if that is, in fact, the case. If it is a Trump-Biden redo, it is something that I’ll have to make that decision at the time. But I am not thrilled with either one of those candidates and we’ll just see what happens down the road.”
