‘He’s a Friend of Mine!’ Keir Starmer Cuts Off Trump to Defend London’s Mayor

U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer cut off President Donald Trump on Monday when the president began trashing the mayor of London.

On Monday morning, Trump met with the prime minister in Scotland to discuss trade and the ongoing conflict in Gaza. When the meeting was opened up to the press for questions, Trump was asked if he’d visit London during his state visit.

“I will,” Trump said. “I’m not a fan of your mayor. I think he’s done a terrible job, the mayor of London. Nasty person. I think he’s done a–”

Starmer then interjected to come to the defense of London Mayor Sadiq Khan.

“He’s a friend of mine,” the prime minister said with a laugh.

Trump was undeterred.

“No, I think he’s done a terrible job,” he repeated, “but I would certainly visit London, yeah.”

Trump has been critical of Khan for several years. Prior to a visit to the city during his first term, Trump called the mayor a “stone cold loser” and accused him of being “foolishly nasty” toward him.

Last year, the president continued his attack on London during Khan’s watch. At a Wisconsin rally held in May 2024, Trump claimed that London had become “unrecognizable” over the years and that Europe had “opened their doors to jihad.”
