‘He’s Bending the Knee’: Megyn Kelly Mocks ‘Weak’ Jeff Bezos For Caving Washington Post to Trump
Megyn Kelly mocked Jeff Bezos for “bending the knee” to President Donald Trump following the billionaire announcing the resignation of his Washington Post editorial page editor over a major pivot for the paper.
Kelly was one of the guests at a Thursday Semafor national summit focused on restoring “trust” in the media, and she did not hold back when asked by Semafor editor-in-chief Ben Smith whether Bezos looks “ballsy or weak” lately.
Bezos announced this week that the Post is entering a “new chapter” where they will focus on defending “personal liberties and free markets.” The move led to David Shipley resigning. Bezos has earned pushback from critics as he’s taken more direct control of his paper recently. He was criticized by some of his own staff for squashing the editorial board endorsing then-Vice President Kamala Harris against Trump. Bezos was one of a number of tech leaders to visit Trump at Mar-a-Lago following his election victory.
Kelly said on Thursday she doesn’t believe Bezos has had any sort of change of heart.
“I’m like, I’m really pleased you came around to the value of individual liberties because they were written into the Bill of Rights a couple hundred years ago. Welcome to the party,” Kelly joked.

BEN SMITH: “Does it come across to you as ballsy or weak?”
MEGYN KELLY: “I guess closer to weak because he’s doing what Joe [Scarborough] and Mika [Brzezinski] did, he’s bending the knee. It’s the same as their trip to Mar-a-Lago. You know, Jeff Bezos for years, up until about two minutes ago was employing Jennifer Rubin at The Washington Post. He hasn’t had a change of heart. Give me a break. Over there — I love Marc Thiessen, nobody loves Marc Thiessen more than me, but you’ve got Thiessen and Geraghty who I also love from National Review, but they’re not even really true die hard MAGAs.”
SMITH: “Do you think Bezos wins points, wins respect in a way from the White House for this sort of stuff?”
KELLY: “You win respect with Trump when you go to him and you tell him, ‘I like you,’ which is clearly what Bezos did. The reporting is very clear.”
SMITH: “So you think it’ll work?”
KELLY: “I think Trump and he will be fine, but that doesn’t make any difference at all to someone like me who is actually looking for sincerity and I’m like, I’m really pleased you came around to the value of individual liberties because they were written into the Bill of Rights a couple hundred years ago. Welcome to the party.”
