Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) reminisced on Thursday about how he gave his “life to Christ” in a Cracker Barrel parking lot during a rant against the company’s “woke rebrand.”
“In college, I worked at @CrackerBarrel in Tallahassee. I even gave my life to Christ in their parking lot,” wrote Donalds in a social media post. “Their logo was iconic and their unique restaurants were a fixture of American culture. No one asked for this woke rebrand. It’s time to Make Cracker Barrel Great Again.”
Cracker Barrel’s stock plunged almost $100 million this week after the company changed its iconic logo as part of a controversial, ongoing rebrand.
CEO Julie Felss Masino received much of the criticism, with critics accusing Cracker Barrel of going “woke.”
Most of the backlash came from conservatives, who compared the company to Bud Light and threatened a boycott, citing not only the new logo, but also a change to decor in Cracker Barrel restaurants, company LGBTQ+ initiatives – which included the sponsorship of a Nashville Pride parade – and DEI policies, such as the “Be Bold” initiative “to cultivate and develop Black Leaders within the Cracker Barrel organization.”
“WTF is wrong with @CrackerBarrel??!” reacted Donald Trump Jr., while even California Gov. Gavin Newsom and the Democratic Party mocked the logo change.
“We think the Cracker Barrel rebrand sucks too,” declared the official Democratic Party social media page.
