‘It’s So Nuts’: James Comey Completely Takes Apart Bonkers Trump Assassination Narrative to Dan Abrams

Former FBI Director James Comey reacted with disbelief at Donald Trump’s claim that President Joe Biden and government authorities were “locked & loaded and ready to take me out” during a search of Mar-a-Lago.

Trump’s Florida property was raided by FBI agents in 2022 in an effort to find classified documents kept after the former president left the White House. The keeping of the documents is now one of the many legal hurdles he’s facing.

In a Truth Social post this week, Trump raised alarms that FBI agents were “authorized to use deadly (lethal) force,” something all law enforcement officials are “authorized” to use in necessary circumstances. Loyal follower Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) ran with Trump’s claim and flat-out accused the FBI, DOJ, and Biden of “planning to assassinate” Trump.

“What do you make of all of this reporting and this claims of the FBI, potentially assassinating Donald Trump?” NewsNation anchor Dan Abrams, founder of Mediaite, asked Comey on Wednesday.

Comey said the accusation was so “nuts” that his book editors would reject it. He’s currently promoting a novel titled Westport.

“It’s so nuts that if I tried to put it in the next book, the editor would strike it out and say, ‘Come on, who would believe that?'” Comey said. “As you said to your viewers, it’s the standard part of every ops order to remind the agents of these are the rules that govern how we conduct ourselves. Same in every case, whether it’s a drug case or you’re searching some politician’s location.”

Abrams noted that conspiracy theorists arguing in favor of the Trump assassination plot story make a point about agents being directed to conceal weapons and even wearing civilian clothing. Comey claimed that the precautions worked against Trump’s story.

“Well, that actually cuts the other way. That was an unusual part of the ops order to try and make sure it was a low-vis search that it wouldn’t attract attention, embarrassment, press notice,” he said. “They were trying to keep it quiet.”

Comey also theorized that public trust in the FBI has deteriorated due to Trump and his consistent criticism of the federal institution.

“My instinct is part of it has to be due to the flame thrower that Donald Trump and his enablers have aimed at the FBI for the last, I don’t know now, seven, eight years,” he said.
