Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) praised Immigration and Customs Enforcement in a social media post on Thursday, condemning “outrageous” calls by fellow Democrats to abolish the agency.

“ICE performs an important job for our country,” wrote Fetterman on X. “Any calls to abolish ICE are inappropriate and outrageous.”

In another post, Fetterman seemed to align himself with President Donald Trump’s current stance, writing, “Absolutely support amnesty for the hardworking, otherwise law-abiding migrant workers. Round up and deport the criminals. We must acknowledge the critical contribution migrants make to our nation’s economy.”

Social media users were quick to point out that Fetterman’s own wife, Gisele Barreto Fetterman, migrated to the United States illegally before receiving a Green Card in 2004 and would have previously been eligible for deportation by ICE.

“Pennsylvania, the spouse of your new senator is a formerly undocumented immigrant. Thank you,” wrote Mrs. Fetterman in a social media post following her husband’s 2022 election victory.

On Thursday, Fetterman also attacked New York City Democratic mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, claiming he was “not even a Democrat” due to his socialist policies.

“Everything that I’ve read on him, I don’t really agree with virtually any of it politically. So that’s just where I’m at as a Democrat,” Fetterman told Fox News. “I mean, so he’s not even a Democrat, honestly.”

In May, a report published by New York Magazine’s Intelligencer detailed numerous concerns from current and former staffers of the senator over his increasingly bizarre behavior.

In one alleged incident, Mrs. Fetterman reportedly confronted her husband over his unconditional support for Israel and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

“They are bombing refugee camps. How can you support this?” she reportedly asked her husband “with tears in her eyes,” to which the senator replied, “That’s all propaganda.”

Mrs. Fetterman then reportedly texted a staffer a few days later, “I am at breaking point and I can’t co-sign this any longer. Id love some help in language to separate myself from this. Can anyone help me?”
