John Hinckley Jr. Responds After Apparently Being Flooded with Election Week Trump Requests: ‘I’m a Man of Peace Now!’

John Hinckley Jr., who became world-famous for shooting and wounding then-President Ronald Reagan in 1981, was apparently besieged by comments asking him to break out his old revolver again this week.

Hinckley spent decades remanded to a mental health facility after he told authorities he shot Reagan to impress actress Jodie Foster.

He has been free for two years now and promoting music and peace.

On Thursday, two days after Donald Trump was elected to a second term in the White House, Hinckley took to his x (formerly Twitter) page to ask others to leave him alone.

While the 69-year-old did not disclose why he felt compelled to post the tweet, one’s imagination does not need to wander far for an answer.

Trump was grazed by a bullet in the ear in June during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania when a would-be-assassin took aim at him and ended up killing 50-year-old Trump supporter Corey Comperatore.

Two months later, Trump was golfing at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida, where police said armed Ryan Routh was lying in wait for an opportunity for a shot at the then-2024 GOP nominee. CBS News reported:

A Secret Service agent spotted Routh and the barrel of a gun in the bushes along the fence at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida, while Trump was playing golf at the course earlier this month.

No shots were fired at the former president, but the Secret Service agent fired at the suspect, who fled and was later arrested.

Trump was the apparent target of a third assassination plot this past week – this one sanctioned by Iran, according to CNN.

Farhad Shakeri, 51, was charged in an alleged plot that dated back to September when the Justice Department said the man was tasked with surveilling and ultimately planning to target Trump.

Police are still searching for Shakeri.
