A medical statement for Vice President Kamala Harris dropped on Saturday, declaring she is in “excellent health” at 59 years old.
The report from Col. Joshua R. Simmons, the vice president’s physician, highlighted some minor health details like seasonal allergies and urticaria, mild near-sightedness, as well as a family history of colon cancer.
Simmons wrote that Harris has a “very healthy diet,” is up to date on her preventative care medications, and maintains a “healthy, active lifestyle” that includes “daily aerobic exercise and core strength training” despite her “busy schedule.” Harris recently spoke with Howard Stern about her morning workout routine, which sometimes includes an elliptical and TV like Morning Joe.
The release of the medical report is notable in that former President Donald Trump has not released such an extensive report despite the fact that he will be the oldest president ever elected if he wins in November at the age of 78. Trump refused to release his medical records during the 2016 presidential campaign and despite recent promises to release a full medical exam, he has not done so. The last health update for the former president came from his physician in November saying his health is “excellent” and his cognitive exams were “exceptional.” Trump posted that short report, which consisted of three paragraphs, to Truth Social.
A senior aide for Harris’s campaign told ABC News shortly before the release of her report that the campaign viewed it as an opportunity to highlight Trump’s lack of such transparency and concerns about his age.
“In summary, Vice President Harris remains in excellent health. She possesses the physical and mental resiliency required to successfully execute the duties of the Presidency, to include those as Chief Executive, Head of State and Commander in Chief,” Harris’s report reads.
