BREAKING: Kevin Cramer Defeats Heidi Heitkamp in ND Senate Race

BREAKING: Fox News is projecting that Cramer has won.

The North Dakota Senate race is a showdown between Democratic incumbent Heidi Heitkamp and Republican Kevin Cramer, North Dakota’s at-large representative.

The latest poll: All of the most recent polls have Cramer in a comfortable lead. The current RCP average has him ahead by 9%.

What pundits are saying: 538 has it as likely Republican, so it’s considered a safe bet Cramer will win. Heitkamp could potentially end up winning, but it would certainly be a shocker.

The race, in brief: It’s unclear if there will be a national “Kavanaugh effect” at the polls tonight, but there’s no question the battle over the Supreme Court nominee looms large over this particular race. Heitkamp made the decision to oppose Kavanaugh in the middle of what was already considered a tough race. She’s received a lot of support from donors since then, but it Heitkamp loses, her vote may be a big reason why.

Heitkamp also came under heavy criticism for an ad that outed sexual assault survivors last month. She has since apologized.

Meanwhile, her Republican opponent was vocal in defending Kavanaugh and, in comments last month, he said that #MeToo is a “movement toward victimization.”

One notable element of the race is how Native American residents have been scrambling to print new IDs in response to a new state voter ID law.
