‘Let Him Be an Assclown’: Cuomo Presses Jordan on Republicans Rejecting Hunter Biden’s Offer to Testify in Public
Chris Cuomo pressed Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) over House Republicans’ rejection of Hunter Biden’s offer to testify in public.
The House Oversight Committee has been investigating the president’s son and trying to uncover evidence showing President Joe Biden was involved in his business ventures abroad. Republicans have so far been unable to provide evidence of wrongdoing on Joe Biden’s part. Nonetheless, on Wednesday the House will vote on whether to open an impeachment inquiry. That is also the day on which Hunter Biden is supposed to sit for a closed-door deposition in front of the committee. Lawyers for Hunter Biden previously offered to have their client testify in a public hearing, which committee Chair James Comer (R-KY) rebuffed.
Jordan appeared on Tuesday’s Cuomo on NewsNation, where the host told the lawmaker he is welcome to discuss the happenings on the probe at any time. Cuomo also had a request for Jordan.
“Let Hunter Biden– let him testify in open,” he said. “You know there is no mandate that it has to be a closed-door session. There’s no rule. Just have him be public. If he’s gonna be an assclown, let him be an assclown. But let everybody see it.”
“I want to do that,” he responded. “But I first want him in private because in public it’s always speeches and filibusters and a handful of questions and people trying to get the big moment.”
Jordan added that he hopes Biden shows up for the deposition on Wednesday.
“But then, we should see that deposition,” Cuomo said.
“Well, you’ll see the transcript at some point when we go through it and then you’ll see when we have a public hearing,” Jordan said.
“But, look, I mean, I understand why he thinks he’s being set up and he doesn’t want to go in,” Cuomo replied.
Biden’s lawyers have raised concerns that Republicans will selectively leak their client’s testimony before it is made public.
