Rep. Dan Goldman (D-NY) — one of the wealthiest members of Congress, estimated to be worth as much as $253 million – was sued this week for allegedly failing to pay several months worth of rent.

In court papers filed, Tuesday in the Manhattan Supreme Court, Goldman’s landlords Jason Gilbert and Natasha Gilbert alleged that the congressman and his wife owed an eye-watering $180,000 in unpaid rent on a luxury condominium at 60 Collister Street in Manhattan.

According to the complaint, Goldman has failed to pay rent – worth $45,000 per month – since August, despite being on the lease until July 2024. The property is currently listed for sale at $14 million.

Goldman’s communications director Simone Kanter denied the allegations in a statement, calling them “baseless.”

“The congressman has always paid his rent on time and in full,” Kanter claimed.

Goldman himself has not publicly addressed the complaint.

According to Crain’s New York, Goldman – an heir to the Levi Strauss & Co. clothing company fortune who assumed office in January 2023 – “does not appear to still live in the apartment,” which is currently being subletted.

“In fact, it’s not clear if Goldman ever even moved into No. 4A, which, according to StreetEasy, has been continuously marketed since the time he supposedly relocated there,” the website revealed.
