Protestors Crash Suozzi Victory Speech: ‘You’re Supporting Genocide!’

Pro-Palestine protestors crashed the beginning of Tom Suozzi’s victory speech on Tuesday shortly after he flipped the seat formerly held by Rep. George Santos (R-NY) in New York’s third congressional district. The Democrat defeated Nassau County legislator Mazi Pilip.

Suozzi previously held the congressional seat for six years but declined to run for reelection in 2022 when he launched an unsuccessful bid for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination.

Upon reclaiming the seat, Suozzi began addressing a raucous crowd of supporters in Woodbury when he was interrupted by protestors.

The crowd chanted, “Suozzi!” repeatedly, prompting him to crack, “Let me just enjoy this for one more minute, ok?”

As the crowd kept chanting, a person holding up a Palestinian flag approached Suozzi on stage.

“You can’t hide!” the person shouted. “You’re supporting genocide! Stop supporting genocide!”

The winning candidate responded by smiling and holding up a clenched fist. Off camera, another voice could be heard yelling, “Genocide! You support genocide! Ceasefire now! Ceasefire now!”

The crowd chanted Suozzi’s name again to drown out the protestors, who were removed from the venue.

He has been an ardent supporter of Israel’s response to the Oct. 7 terror attacks carried out by Hamas, which killed 1,200 Israelis. The Israeli government subsequently launched an invasion of Hamas-controlled Gaza, resulting in the deaths of more than 28,000 Palestinians in the territory, according to officials there.

Some Democrats have suggested limiting aid to Israel, but Suozzi said such calls are “clueless.”

Suozzi resumed his speech by mocking the attacks directed at him on the campaign trail, including a comparison to members of the left-wing Squad in the House of Representatives.
