Rand Paul Trolls Trump After White House Lunch Snub
Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) confirmed he wasn’t invited to President Donald Trump’s Senate Republican lunch on Tuesday with a tweet trolling him.
That afternoon, Trump invited Senate Republicans from across the country to the White House Rose Garden. During a marathon speech opening the event, Trump touted the achievements of the Republican Party during his second term, while also shading Paul for his apparent lack of support:
We’ve confirmed more than 175 public servants — people that are phenomenal to key posts — and that’s just been over the last couple of weeks. It’s an unbelievable thing what you’ve done, John, with all of you together. So working closely with me and the House majority, the Republican Senate also gave us the largest working class tax cut in American history. And you passed the Laken Riley Act to throw illegal alien criminals out of our country. You passed the Genius Act and the Take It Down Act with the support of our wonderful first lady.
She got, by the way, she got actual support from the other side. It was bipartisan. I think Rand didn’t vote for it again. I think it was only Rand! We had bipartisan support, other than maybe Rand.
Multiple senators could be heard laughing off-screen.
Shortly after Trump finished speaking, Paul took to X/Twitter to reveal that he wasn’t invited to the event. Instead, he was at a Liberty Caucus lunch with Rep. Thomas Massie.
“I actually wasn’t invited to the White House lunch today,” Paul tweeted, “but that’s ok I had a previously scheduled Liberty Caucus Lunch with @MassieforKY.”
