Right-Wing Pundit Predicts JD Vance Being in Tucker Carlson’s ‘Orbit’ Will Hurt Republicans in 2028

Conservative pundit Dave Rubin believes Vice President JD Vance has a bit of a problem heading into the 2028 election: his ties to Tucker Carlson.

Rubin argued on Sean Hannity’s podcast on Tuesday the Vance-Carlson connection will hurt the GOP and makes the vice president a slightly worse nominee than Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

“I think [Rubio’s] coalition would be bigger than JD’s. JD is a little bit in that Tucker orbit, that’s gonna cost the Republicans a little bit I think,” Rubin said. “Maybe not a ton, but I think [with] Rubio, there aren’t that worries about him.”

He added Carlson and Megyn Kelly have gone “completely off the rails” in recent years, and said people like Carlson who claim President Donald Trump is being manipulated by Israel are “insane.”

Rubin also said he didn’t want to play the “identity politics game,” but Rubio being of Cuban descent and being able to speak Spanish were another couple points in his favor.

He shared his take after Carlson was reportedly one of the key figures who pushed Trump to select Vance as his running mate in 2024.

Vance had been a regular guest on Carlson’s Fox News program when he was still at the channel, and their cozy relationship continued after Trump and Vance won the election, with Carlson’s son Buckley Carlson serving as the vice president’s deputy press secretary. Buckley Carlson quit the gig earlier this year.

Rubin ripped Carlson a few other times during his Hannity podcast appearance.

He said Carlson was one of a handful of commentators who were “dancing on the grave” of right-wing influencer Charlie Kirk soon after he was murdered by having Nick Fuentes on his show.

“For Tucker to put Fuentes on three months after Charlie died, [after] Charlie was killed — Fuentes was the only guy Charlie didn’t want as part of his movement,” Rubin said. “There was only one name he ever said that about, and it was Fuentes.”

“Wow,” Hannity said.

Rubin said he started to view Carlson differently after that.

As for Carlson, he recently ditched the Republican Party and appears to be teaming up with ex-GOP lawmaker Marjorie Taylor Greene to launch a new “America First” party. So it doesn’t look like he’d be backing Vance in ’28, anyway.
