CNN’s Scott Jennings theorized President Joe Biden is attempting to undercut the campaign of Vice President Kamala Harris when he praised her for heavily influencing his administration.
Biden spoke in the White House Briefing Room on Friday for the first time as president, just three months until he is set to retire from public office. The president celebrated a better-than-expected jobs report, but also took questions from reporters.
The president was asked:
There have obviously been a number of crises that the country has been facing over the past several days with the hurricane, with port strike, with the situation in the Middle East. Can you talk about how your vice president, who is running for the presidency, has worked on these crises and what role she has played over the past several days?
Biden responded:
Well, she’s— I’m in constant contact with her. She’s aware of where — we all — we’re singing from the same song sheet. We — she helped pass the l- — all the laws that are being employed now. She was a major player in everything we’ve done, including passage of legislation, which we were told we could never pass. And so, she’s been — and her — her staff is interlocked with mine in terms of all the things we’re doing.
Jennings shared a clip of the exchange and questioned whether Biden’s decision to connect Harris to him might have been an attempt to hurt her chances against former President Donald Trump in November.
“He is literally trying to destroy her campaign and it’s just incredible,” Jennings wrote.
