‘So, So, Moronic’: Charlie Kirk Brutally Mocked By Right and Left Over Anti-MLK Campaign

Charlie Kirk, the CEO and founder of the pro-Trump student group Turning Point USA, finally launched his campaign against Martin Luther King Jr. and the Civil Rights Act on Monday – MLK Day.
Kirk celebrated the federal holiday and the civil rights icon’s birthday with a day of content aimed at discrediting the “myth” around MLK.
“Who was MLK? A myth has been created and it has grown totally out of control. While he was alive most people disliked him, yet today he is the most honored, worshipped, even deified person of the 20th century. Today we are going to tell the truth and explain how this myth was born. Happy Monday,” wrote Kirk on X/Twitter.
Kirk also offered his anti-MLK screed on his podcast, which is influential with the online MAGA base.
Wired’s William Turton reported last week on Kirk’s plans “to launch a campaign against MLK” and noted that such racially charged historical revisionism was a departure even for Kirk, who is known for his outlandish and race-baiting comments. Turton wrote:
Even for Kirk and Turning Point USA, the attacks on King represent a dramatic shift. The group has profited from the use of King’s image. Turning Point USA’s website sold a $55 T-shirt with MLK’s name and stickers of King that say ‘Let freedom ring.’ After an inquiry from WIRED, both products were removed from TPUSA’s store.
Kirk’s attacks on the civil rights leader, who preached non-violence and was assassinated in 1968, quickly sparked a bevy of mocking replies from across the political specturm.
“So moronic. So, so, moronic,” replied Jonah Goldberg, the conservative pundit and editor-in-chief of The Dispatch.
“This is not going to end well. Probably a good thing Salem Media voluntarily delisted from NASDAQ,” replied conservative radio host Erick Erickson.
Fox News columnist David Marcus added, “Tearing down an American hero who united and continues to unite us is not the answer. Whatever his flaws, King taught America to value content of character over the color of skin and that legacy will live long after his critics are forgotten.”
On the left, CNN contributor Bakari Sellers replied, “Didn’t you drop out of community college?”
