Steve Bannon Tells Audience to Ditch Republicans Supporting Spending Bill: ‘You Vote for This, You’re Done’

Former Donald Trump advisor Steve Bannon warned Republican lawmakers they could be “done” if they support a new $1.2 trillion spending package to avoid a partial government shutdown by the weekend.
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) has pushed Republicans to support the bill, releasing a statement about the just-released 1,000-plus text touting conservative policy wins like a $20 billion proposed spending cut to the IRS. He has faced a number of Republican lawmakers, however, who have pushed back on the bill and said they will not vote for it.
On his War Room show, Bannon told Republican lawmakers that passing the spending bill, which would keep many federal departments funded for years, will “hamstring” Trump if he’s elected to the White House again.
“I got to tell you this deficit and this budget is outrageous. It’s going to be over $2 trillion dollars. Mark my words. It’s going to be over $2 trillion, and this is why it’s got to be fought, it’s got to be stopped now. We’re going to hamstring — all these people say, ‘oh, we need a bigger majority, we need to take the Senate, we need to get President Trump back in,’ you’re going to hamstring President Trump on his economic plan,” Bannon said.
He told his audience to warn their representatives that they will never support them again if they back the bill.
“This is what we got to fight, and you’ve got to tell people, hey, you vote for this, you’re done — I’m done with you. I don’t care what good they’ve done in the past,” Bannon said, adding people need to contact their representatives about the bill and “hit them with both barrels today.”
He also knocked Republicans over their “impeachment fiasco” aimed at President Joe Biden.
“Most of the Republicans didn’t sit there for the entire time. That shows you how much seriousness they put into it,” Bannon said.
The Republican strategist argued Republicans should demand Biden shut down the southern border and pass border reforms through executive orders and if he doesn’t, let the government shut down.
Biden previously pushed House Republicans to support a bipartisan border deal that would have included the power to shut down the border, something Republican lawmakers like Johnson have argued he can already do without legislation.
“You need to tell Biden, you need to shut down the border now or you’re going to shut down your government and we’ll get in a room over the weekend and you convince us of what you’re going to do [with] executive orders and others to shut down the border from the invasion,” Bannon said. “Once you do that then we can talk about giving you the money to open your government back up. Until then, sorry, and we’ll win that argument with the American people.”
Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) also joined Bannon on Thursday to blast Republican leadership over the spending bill, vowing to never support any of his colleagues who vote for it.
“Mike Johnson blew it,” the congressman said.
