Swalwell Nukes GOP Impeachment Talk in Floor Speech: ‘The Only Crime Is That Joe Biden Blew Out Donald Trump’
Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) slammed House Republicans ahead of a vote on whether to open an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden on Wednesday.
The House Oversight Committee has been investigating the president’s son Hunter Biden and his business ventures, which Republicans claim involved Joe Biden. They have yet to furnish proof the president committed wrongdoing. Democrats have said the move is payback after a Democratic-controlled House impeached former President Donald Trump twice.
During a floor speech, Swalwell alleged that his Republican colleagues are trying to impeach Biden merely for defeating Trump in the 2020 presidential election, which Trump falsely told supporters was rigged against him.
“This impeachment is a continuation of the insurrection that came here on January 6,” he declared. “This gang has never accepted Joe Biden as the president. And the architect of the idea you can overturn the election is the current speaker of the House. And then Donald Trump sent that violent mob here. It didn’t work and so now, we’re here, where they’re going to try and use this House to overturn the election through this inquiry.”
He pivoted and blasted Republicans for having “zero evidence” showing Biden engaged in wrongdoing:
The problem is they have zero evidence. The only crime is that Joe Biden blew out Donald Trump in the 2020 election. And that’s a problem because this place is the largest law firm in D.C. with these lawyers working on behalf of just one client – Donald Trump – at the expense of everything else that matters.
But I want to give James Comer some credit because after 50,000 pages of depositions, and secret hearings, and closed hearings, I think if we give him enough time, he’s going to prove that Hunter Biden is Joe Biden’s son.
Comer is the chair of the Oversight Committee and has appeared on cable news hundreds of times this year to tout the committee’s findings.
