Top GOP Rep. Elise Stefanik Blames Nancy Pelosi for Capitol Riot as 1/6 Hearings Kick Off: She ‘Bears Responsibility’
Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) blamed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) for the Capitol insurrection just as the January 6th House select committee kicked off its first hearing.
“There is a reason that Nancy Pelosi is the most disliked elected official in America,” Stefanik began. “She always puts her own partisan politics over what’s best for the American people.”
The Republican lawmaker went on to pronounce Pelosi an “authoritarian who has broken the People’s House” — which was in fact stormed by supporters of Stefanik’s own party on January 6th.
Stefanik went on to attack Pelosi for refusing to appoint GOP representatives Jim Jordan (OH) and Jim Banks (IN) to the January 6th House select committee, claiming it’s because the speaker, “doesn’t want the American people to know the truth or learn the facts.”
“She doesn’t want a fair or bipartisan investigation, she wants a political one,” she added. “It is a fact that on that December of 2020, Nancy Pelosi was made aware of potential security threats to the Capitol, and she failed to act.”
Stefanik asserted that Pelosi prioritized political optics over the safety of Capitol Police officers, claiming she failed to provide them with the resources they “needed and they deserved.”
The GOP representative did not, however, note that while the House easily passed a resolution to award Congressional Gold Medals to Capitol Police officers for their defense of the Capitol on January 6 — 21 Republicans voted against the bill.
“The American people deserve to know the truth — that Nancy Pelosi bears responsibility as Speaker of the House for the tragedy that occurred on January 6th,” said the representative. “And it was only after Republicans started asking these important questions that she refused to seat them. she to House Republicans will continue to follow the truth and the facts and support our law enforcement officers to make sure this never happens again in the U.S. Capitol — the People’s House.”
