President Donald Trump welcomed Tuesday’s primary win by Florida state Sen. Randy Fine (R), who prevailed in the race to be the Republican nominee for the state’s Sixth Congressional District. The seat became vacant after former Rep. Michael Waltz (R) left the post to become Trump’s National Security Advisor.
Fine is on track to win the special general election, as Florida’s sixth is considered a safe Republican district.
The state senator is a controversial figure. In November, Fine went after Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and Rashida Tlaib (D-MI).
“The “Hebrew Hammer” is coming,” he tweeted. “@RashidaTlaib and @IlhanMN might consider leaving before I get there. #BombsAway.”
After Fine’s victory, Trump went on Truth Social and posted an image of himself and Fine.
“Randy Fine wins!” the image read. “Endorsed by President Trump!”
Omar and Tlaib are the only two Muslim women serving in Congress. They have been critical of Israel, particularly since the onset of the war in Gaza. Tlaib, who is the only member of Congress of Palestinian descent, was censured by the Republican-controlled House last year for allegedly “promoting false narratives regarding the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack on Israel and for calling for the destruction of the state of Israel.”
Not surprisingly, Fine is also a strident critic of former President Joe Biden. In 2022, he warned against Biden’s non-existent plans to take Americans’ guns away.
“I have news for the embarrassment that claims to be our President — try to take our guns and you’ll learn why the Second Amendment was written in the first place,” the Republican tweeted.
