Trump Reportedly Eyeing Democratic Congressman Jared Moskowitz to Lead FEMA

CNN journalists reported on Monday that President-elect Donald Trump is considering naming Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-FL) to lead FEMA – the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Senior reporter Steve Contorno posted to X, “New: FL Rep. Jared Moskowitz, a Democrat, is a top contender to lead FEMA for Donald Trump, sources tell me and @KristenhCNN. Moskowitz previously served as the director of Emergency Management for Florida Gov. DeSantis, where he helped lead the state’s COVID response.”
CNN reported, “Since Trump won in November, Moskowitz — first elected in 2022 — has taken a notably friendlier approach to the incoming administration than some of his Democratic colleagues. He was quick to offer praise on social media when Trump tapped another Florida native, Susie Wiles, as chief of staff. Moskowitz has a close relationship with Wiles from their time working in Florida politics, a source familiar with the dynamic told CNN.”
Moskowitz served as the director of the Florida Division of Emergency Management before running for Congress and winning his seat in 2022. While in the House, Moskowitz has made a name for himself with his headline-grabbing rhetoric and viral stunts. In March, Moskowitz showed up to the Capitol wearing a Vladimir Putin mask ahead of a House Oversight Committee hearing into “influence peddling” allegations related to Hunter Biden.
“I just came to thank James Comer for taking all of our intelligence and using it in the committee. Maybe he can come see the technology in our grocery stores. Thank you,” said Moskowitz to reporters at the time, apparently referring to the key whistleblower behind the Biden allegations having admitted he passed along Russian intelligence to the Republican investigators.
Moskowitz sparred with Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-KY) throughout the last Congress and repeatedly called Comer out over his investigation into President Joe Biden. Moskowitz went so far as to call his GOP colleagues’ bluff and moved himself to impeach Biden — urging his GOP colleagues to join the motion, which they refused to do.
Moskowitz serves from Florida’s 23rd district, which has reliably voted for Democrats for president, but did swing to Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) in 2022.
