Biden Camp Mocks Trump For Hawking $400 Gold Sneakers — That Sold Out in a Day
The Biden campaign predictably threw shade at Donald Trump’s latest venture: hawking $399 gold sneakers.
The former president debuted the “Never Surrender High-Top Sneaker” at Sneaker Con in Philadelphia Saturday, one day after he was ordered to pay nearly $355 million in his New York civil fraud case.
Some Trump critics claim he doesn’t have the cash to pay the civil fraud judgment or the E. Jean Carroll defamation case judgment of $88.3 million, and is looking for creative measures to quickly raise funds.
Biden-Harris 2024 Communications Director Michael Tyler couldn’t help but poke fun at the former president’s latest venture, and referenced brands Off-White and Nike in a statement: “Donald Trump showing up to hawk bootleg Off-Whites is the closest he’ll get to any Air Force Ones ever again for the rest of his life.”
According to the Trump merch website, the limited-run gold sneakers — there were 1,000 for sale — sold out by Saturday night. Each pair of the “Super Limited” kicks was numbered, with “At least 10 Randomly Autographed by Trump,” and came with an “Exclusive Trump Superhero Charm,” according to the site.
MAGA fans who didn’t get to the gold shoes in time can still pre-order $199 “T-Red Wave sneakers,” as well as a white “Potus 45” version. They can also pick up some “Trump Victory 47″ cologne, if so inclined.
Of the footwear project, Trump told the crowd at Sneaker Con, “This is something I’ve been talking about for 12 years, 13 years, and I think it’s going to be a big success.”
The former president received a mixed reception at the event for sneaker enthusiasts, with some people booing and others crying at the chance to see Trump in person.
“Wow! Lot of emotion. There’s a lot of emotion in this room right here,” Trump said. “Thank you!”
