‘I’ll See You in Court!’ Trump and Maine Governor Trade Jabs at WH Governor’s Meeting Over Transgender Sports Ban
President Donald Trump traded jabs with Maine Governor Janet Mills (D) at the White House over transgender athletes’ participation in women’s sports on Friday.
At a meeting with the nation’s governors, Trump threatened to withhold federal funding from the Mills’s state if the governor did not enforce his executive order barring transgender athletes from competing in girls and women’s sports.
Earlier this month, the president signed an executive order that excludes transgender girls and women from female sports. Trump supporters celebrated the move, but critics argue it infringes upon the rights of transgender athletes. The order says the White House will withhold federal funding for schools that do not stop transgender women or girls from entering in female-designated sporting competitions.
Trump and Democratic Maine Gov. Janet Mills got in a brief row over trans women in sports.
Trump: “You better do it because you’re not going to get federal funding.”
Mills: “We’re going to follow the law sir. We’ll see you in court,” she said.

Trump fired back, “Enjoy your life after governor because I don’t think you’ll be an elected official afterwards.”
