Lawyer for Undocumented Trump Club Workers Says His Clients Were ‘Threatened With Deportation’ by Staff

On Thursday, the New York Times reported that two women who were working for President Donald Trump‘s Bedminster golf club were undocumented workers.

They also published this response from the Trump Organization:

The Trump Organization, which owns the golf course, did not comment specifically on Ms.[Victorina] Morales or Ms.[Sandra] Diaz. “We have tens of thousands of employees across our properties and have very strict hiring practices,” Amanda Miller, the company’s senior vice president for marketing and corporate communications, said in a statement. “If an employee submitted false documentation in an attempt to circumvent the law, they will be terminated immediately.”

However, speaking to CNN on Thursday, a lawyer for the women, Anibal Romero, said that the two women worked cleaning now-President Trump and Ivanka Trump‘s house.

He also said that they were both threatened with deportation and after Trump became president one of the women was also subject to abuse.

“In the beginning everything was great,” Romero said. “Since he became president, the staff at the club has in a way become empowered. And now there is plenty of abuse, they have — at least Vicky has been physically assaulted on numerous occasions. They have been both — they were both threatened with deportation. They were coerced into doing work they didn’t want to do.”

The lawyer said he has also been in contact with authorities about the abuse but commented no further.

He added that there were more than the two workers he represents working for Trump without documents and stressed the management “absolutely” facilitated their illegal employment.

Romero’s interview hit on revelations beyond the Times report, and at the conclusion of the interview, host Chris Cuomo noted that a number of the claims made by Romero in the interview had not yet been vetted.
