Trump Drops an All-Time Whopper at Rally, Claims 82% of the Country ‘Understands That it Was a Rigged Election’
Former President Donald Trump claimed there’s a poll that shows a whopping 82 percent of the country believes the 2020 presidential election was “rigged” in favor of Joe Biden.
Trump made the unsubstantiated claim at Saturday’s Get Out The Vote rally in North Carolina.
What happened at that last election was a disgrace, and we’re not going to let it happen again. We’re not going to let it happen again. Did you ever notice they want to go after the people that find out where the cheating was —and, by the way, 82 percent of the country understands that it was a rigged election, OK? You can’t have a country with that. A poll came out, 82 percent — but they go after the people — they don’t go after the people that rigged the election — they go after the people that looking, they’re looking for the people that rigged the election. And that’s the people they go after. They got away with something; they’re never going to get away with it again.
The right-leaning Washington Examiner noted that, “The source and timing of the poll Trump cited are unclear,” continuing:
However, in November 2021, the Public Religion Research Institute released the results of its American Values Survey, which included a section on extremism, conspiracies, and QAnon. That poll found that 82 percent of “Republicans who most trust Fox News” either “completely agree” or “mostly agree” that the election a year prior was stolen from Trump. That percentage among all respondents was just 31.
In the same survey last year, only 65 percent of the Republicans who said they most trust Fox News believed that the 2020 election was stolen from Trump, while the number among all respondents increased to 32 percent.
It’s not known if this is the poll Trump was referring to, but one thing is for certain: no matter how many times he repeats his claim, the election was not rigged, Trump lost fair-and-square, and Joe Biden is the rightful president.
